BlowerDoor air tightness testing system - One of the most common building energy problems (besides thermal bridges) is the lack of air sealing in buildings. We find installation gaps, faulty joints (e.g. between roof and wall, during window installation), missing or improperly sealed vapor barriers in attic conversions, and poorly sealed windows. All these errors lead to continuous (unwanted) air exchange in the building, requiring a lot of energy to heat up the incoming air (in winter) or cool it down (in summer).

In addition to thermographic examination of the building's heat balance (heat loss), it is advisable to identify these air sealing errors. The best tool for this is the BlowerDoor procedure, where a vacuum (50 Pa) is created in the building with the help of a fan, and with a thermal camera (only in winter) or an airflow meter (anemometer, all year round), we can detect external air entering through the air sealing gaps. The airflow can also be made visible with a fog machine.

Of course, the Minneapolis BlowerDoor system - with APT pressure gauge/data logger and TECLOG evaluation software - also quantitatively measures the amount of airflow, allowing the leakage rate to be determined in an objective numerical form. The result of the BlowerDoor air tightness test is an air exchange rate (n50), which documents how many times the air in the property or room is exchanged per hour at a pressure difference of 50 Pa.
